Green Ride |
|
I recently took a 3 day tour with Parichat and Supoj of Thailand Green Ride while visiting Thailand. I was extremely happy with the tour, their expert guidance and friendly manner during the tour. I found my past concerns of riding in Thailand were indeed misplaced and would like to comment on my experience.
First, drivers in Thailand are aggressive and riding in Thailand is dangerous. My experience suggests this is both true and false. True, Thai drivers often do things which in many countries would have the law frowning on them, but it is VERY IMPORTANT to understand that drivers in Thailand are constantly on the lookout for motorcycles and therefore other two wheel vehicles such as bicycles. I only wish that drivers in the United States paid as much attention to motorcycles and bicycles. I have had problems more than once with drivers nearly hitting me and then claiming they never saw me or worst claiming I had no right to be using the road. It should be noted that Thailand Green Ride uses back roads, walking paths and other low speed routes where ever possible. I noted that I sometimes found ourselves weaving around on small roads or paths wondering why we doing so. I soon realized that Parichat and Supoj were deliberately doing this to avoid high speed roads. The added benefit of this approach was I saw much more of the country at a slower pace and had a more enjoyable tour. Second, dogs in Thailand are aggressive and unpredictable. I truly found dogs in Thailand NO more aggressive than dogs in the United States. It is very interesting to note the varying attitude of dogs in Thailand to cars, motorcycles and bicycles. I have seen dogs sleeping in the middle of the road where they neither moved for car nor bicycle. Thai dogs have more experience with motorcycles and bicycles. I noticed Supoj who usually led the tour would shout to any dog, especially those lying in the road to get their attention. Those dogs having been properly given advance notice of our approach usually ambled off of the road or would allow us to pass without incident. Those few dogs that were territorial were handled by either Supoj or Parichat in an expert manner. I found myself so comfortable with their handling of dogs that I could concentrate on the ride and the surrounding views without worry. Third, Thailand is too hot and humid to tour via bicycle. Yes Thailand is hot and humid, but the type of slow paced tour offered by Thailand Green Ride is perfect for such conditions. Frequent stops are made to hydrate and I highly recommend you do. As any bike rider knows it is very hard to estimate the amount of water they are losing due to evaporation of sweat. I found I was constantly being politely reminded to drink water so I would not have any hydration problems. So if you are thinking of touring Thailand via bicycle I again highly recommend you do so with Thailand Green Ride for an experience you will not forget. They are a friendly husband and wife team who are highly interested in the quality of the tour, your personal health and your comfort. They are flexible to the guests needs such as the day I indicated I was much more interested in a nationwide “Children’s Day” event than a temple we were scheduled to visit. We had a great time seeing this yearly holiday together and how it is celebrated. If you would like to contact me via email please ask either Parichat or Supoj for my email address and I will get back to you regarding my experiences or answer your questions. Sincerely, Steven Telck Casper, Wyoming, United States |

I had the good fortune of taking a cycling tour with arichat during my visit to Bangkok. As we know, all Thais are wonderful and friendly but Parichat was an exception even in a country of such high hospitality standards.
She took extra time, her own time, to make certain we got to see as much as possible on our tour. She is extremely knowledgeable and readily shares everything she can about her country and her marvelous city of Bangkok. Parichat is sensitive and open-minded and her command of English is excellent. The bike tour with Parichat was one of the highlight’s of my visit to Thailand and is a must for all, even the non-athletic like me ! What better way to discover what tourists often never see than, first hand, by bike, with a wonderful, generous tour guide ? Do take the bike tour ! You will not regret it. L. Khan Strasbourg, France Recently I had a great experience during my visit to Bangkok. We were going to make a cycling tour through Bangkok, and none of us in the group had expected this to be such great fun! Bangkok has the reputation of being a busy city, full of air pollution and traffic jams, what could be scenic about that? And above all, wasn’t it dangerous to ride a bicycle in this city? Being from The Netherlands, I am very much used to riding a bicycle, no secrets for me! So I was a bit skeptical to ride through a city without cycle paths, and with few cyclists. Well, I was awestruck by the beautiful and scenic cycling tour Parichat had prepared for us. She took us through the outskirts of Bangkok and we were surprised by friendly people greeting us along the way, beautiful temples, a boat trip through the khlongs of Bangkok, and tranquil cycling through a jungle area with banana trees, a beautiful park where we fed the fish, and a delicious meal along the road, prepared for us by a smiling lady, all inclusive! We were very happy and satisfied, a great and safe experience under the professional guidance of Parichat Suntararak! Jeroen Ouwerkerk The Netherlands |
